2018 Weekend Update
for registered dancers

  • Flash light!!! The camp will be dark at night. Not much outdoor lighting around the camp. 
  • Warm clothing for cool evenings
  • Cool clothing for warm days. 
  • Sturdy shoes [rough ground, a rough stone stairway between dance hall and kitchen] 
  • Your dance snack contribution [if you did not make a $5 contribution.]

If you are staying onsite in a cabin or camping
  • Sheets
  • Pillow
  • Warm blankets or sleeping bag. Cabins are unheated!
  • Towel, wash cloth, soap, shampoo
  • Shower shoes or flip flops. Bathhouse floors tend to accumulate water. 
Check-in starts at 5 pm.

The check-in table will be located on the porch of the Dance Hall. Signs at the entrance to the park will direct you to the 4H Camp part of the park and to the check-in station.

At check-in you will
  • receive information about the weekend
  • be able to choose a cabin [first-come-first-served] or find a suitable camping area
  • choose a day & time to bring your snack item to the dance snack table 
  • create a custom DYI button.   

BUTTON OPTION: Bring and use a favorite button (or two) from another dance weekend.  It is ok to use that button at the Whirl.  

If you arrive before 5 pm, you can select a cabin space or tent space. 

If you arrive after 5 pm, please check-in before proceeding to a cabin or a camp site.

We will post information around the camp, but will not have stacks of printed material to handout. 

Cabins are primitive 4H camp buildings. They are not heated. Beds are 4H-style bunk beds. They have mattresses only. Mattresses have been purchased in the last couple of years.

We will not assigned cabin spaces. First-come-first-served in cabins.

Cabin designations are:
Cabin 1: Coed cabin.
Cabin 2: Whirl staff cabin only
Cabin 5: Upper floor: women’s cabin.  This level has its own entrance.
Cabin 5: Lower: men’s cabin.  This level has its own entrance.
Cabin 6: Coed cabin. The cabin has two floors. The single entrance is on the ground floor.

Each cabin has a sign with its number.  The Camp Map shows location of each cabin. 

The Fayette County 4H Camp rules prohibit moving of beds and removing mattresses from beds.  Please do not move beds / mattresses. We will forfeit our deposit if they are moved. 

Tent camping is permitted only in the 4H Camp area.  It is not permitted in the picnic / park area.

Camping spaces are available:
[1] Near the dance hall.
[2] Near the dining halls [lots of flat space here]
[3] In the large field opposite Cabins 1 and 2 

Men's and women's bathhouses  - near Cabins 5 and 6 

Coed bath house - between Cabins 1 and 2 and near the large camping field.
  • Dance Hall has several outlets around the room. Can be used for charging mobile phones.
  • Dining Hall has a few outlets around the room. Can be used for charging mobile phones.
  • Cabins: Few outlets. Locations not convenient. Can be used for charging mobile phones. Not suitable for electric blankets, portable heaters, lamps, etc.

For local weather, check the forecast for Fayetteville, WV. It is the nearest location with data available. 

Expect warm days and cool evenings.  The camp is at a higher elevation that some other areas in West Virginia. Weather is cooler there, than for lower elevations.

Pets are not permitted in either the park or the camp.
